A letter from our Founder

‘The Alignment Problem’ is the challenge of aligning powerful AI systems with human values. That is, to make sure that AI systems only ‘wants’ what we want.

There are lots of hardworking researchers, policymakers and businesses working on the problem of how to align powerful AI systems to human values, or as Stuart Russell put it, how to make AI systems ‘Human Compatible’.

But Alignment from AI to humans isn’t enough: we need to do our bit too. That is, we need to have values to begin with to be aligned, and we need to be familiar enough with AI systems that we are
informed, able, and well-intentioned with the powerful AI systems that are being released.

AI Compatible is a consultancy that works on this neglected side of the alignment problem: the human side. We build AI visions, literacy, adoption, and governance. In a word, compatibility.

    FOUNDER

    Since 2019, Joe has been grappling with the question of how to adjust to a world being transformed by AI. He spent 4 years tackling this question at the University of
    Cambridge, and the last 2 years tackling it with some of the world’s biggest businesses, including Astra Zeneca, Vodafone, Accenture Song and more.

  • Omer Bilgin

    Omer is an AI ethics, policy, and governance researcher. His unique expertise is grounded in both his academic training in Practical Ethics at the University of Oxford, and his professional roles as Co-founder and Chief Ethics & Research Officer at an AI startup called deliberAIde and as a Technology & Data Ethics Advisor
    for Suffrago.
